  27. GMC-BBS is a mailbox-program written for the Commodore AMIGA by Gerhard and
  28. Christine Moerth.
  29.  
  30. This manual will guide you through the installation and helps you with the
  31. usage of the software.
  32.  
  33. Generally a "Bulletin Board System" (BBS) is a program which clearly
  34. arranges a lot of notes. This and much more does GMC-BBS. Users also can
  35. read and write private mails or up- and download programs. Every operation
  36. is protected by a security level.
  37.  
  38. For every area of GMC-BBS (Bulletins Menu, File System, Message Board,
  39. Private Mail, Setup Menu and User Menu) there is a separate security level.
  40. The limits can be set in the configuration file so that only users with the
  41. corresponding security level can use the menus.

  47. - Bulletins, messages and files can be arranged in maximal 100 directories
  48.   with unlimited subdirectories. Each directory has it's own security
  49.   level. Directories and subdirectories can contain any number of
  50.   bulletins, messages and files. The limit is only the available disk
  51.   space.
  52.  
  53. - GMC-BBS uses external and internal transfer protocols. At the moment
  54.   "X-modem-checksum"  and  "X-modem-CRC" are integrated. The program
  55.   switches automatically to the protocol of the caller. You can include
  56.   external protocols such as X-modem, Y-modem, Z-modem, Bi-Modem etc.
  57.   which correspond with XPR standard with the configuration file.

  59. - The security level can be individually set for every user. By specific
  60.   placing of security codes it is possible to delegate the service of the
  61.   box.

  63. - All serial I/O-routines are optimized by hand for best performance.

  65. - The SysOp can change the time limit, can edit the rights of the
  66.   user online at any time, control, block or release security level,
  67.   printer output, screen output, keyboard input, serial input and output
  68.   as well as sending the output to the printer or save it as file and he
  69.   can cause the immediate logout of a user.

  71. - Usage with keyboard and mouse for the main functions.

  73. - Usergroups with a special info text can be created, time limits and
  74.   the UL/DL Ratio can be given unlimited.

  76. - Different emulations like TTY, TTY+CLS, VT100/ANSI, VT100/ANSI+CLS can
  77.   be set by the user.

  79. - Special characters are accepted. From OS 2.0 on you can use all graphic
  80.   possibilities of the ANSI emulation with an IBM font. It is urgently
  81.   recommended to use kickstart version 2.0 or higher.

  83. - GMC-BBS was written for highest speed, reliability and flexibility.
  84.   Efficient programming technique leads to 100% multitasking use under
  85.   OS 1.2, 1.3, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1. The program was written in C and tested on
  86.   different machines.

  88. - NTSC, PAL resolution and drivers for the serial.device or for internal
  89.   modems are configured in the TOOL-TYPES or set as parameters when the
  90.   program starts.

  92. - The serial.device can be released to use other terminal programs without
  93.   restarting GMC-BBS. You can switch the mailbox to "not ready" e.g. to
  94.   backup your hard disk. During this time there will be no access on the
  95.   hard disk or floppy disk.

  97. - Internal, external modems and highspeed modems are supported perfectly
  98.   (e.g. higher DTE speed between computer and modem which allows data
  99.   compression).

  101. - Fax call detection and transmission to external fax programs is possible.
  102.   At the moment ready scripts for Multifax (TKR) and TrapFax (Village
  103.   Tronic) are included. If your modem has no fax detection or your fax
  104.   software cannot handle an existing line (shared mode +FCON) you can also
  105.   connect an external fax switch.

  107. - Freely to configure and expand.

  109. - Multitasking will not be effected. You can do whatever you want, GMC-BBS
  110.   runs as a autonomous program and is programmed correctly.
  111.   NOTE: There cannot be enough RAM.

  113. - Built in timer for parking the harddisk automatically.

  115. - Built in timer for periodically loading of the system time. The system
  116.   time is checked and even the program will be stopped because suggestive
  117.   working is not possible without correct time.

  119. - Online packing of files for download can be used by every user (e.g. LHA,
  120.   LZH, ZOO, ARC, ...). After packing is finished the user gets a message.

  122. - The flashing power LED shows you, if you had user in your mailbox.
  123.   Display to show how many mailbox calls or fax calls came in or how many
  124.   New User joined as a member.

  126. - Call Back function (A given number will be dialed immediately after the
  127.   logout).

  129. - If the configuration of the modem is faulty the respective line will be
  130.   printed which is very useful for correction. Slow modems are supported as
  131.   well as fast modems.

  133. - Integrated free adjustable up- and download ratio which can be effective
  134.   on the number of files or bytes.

  136. - Automatic line break in the chat mode.

  138. - Automatic modem report and protocol of the user action as well as the

  158.              It is urgently recommended to use at least kickstart 2.0
  159.              otherwise you cannot use the program EEU.PRG External User.
